From Zero Online Income to Evergreen Content: My Journey With The Timeless & Timely Writing Principle
“That means, I don’t deserve any money, only when I die?”
Always buy books from dead authors — Imagine growing up with this faulty belief.
Parents, teachers, and everyone were saying the same thing: “Never buy a book from a living author. It is required to pass the time test.” One day, I shared this struggle with my first copywriting mentor. By the way, he has a prosperous living because of his writings. He stopped walking and said one thing that stuck with me forever.
“That means, I don’t deserve any money, only when I die?”
No matter the platform where I write, the content can be divided into 2 buckets.
Timely, which is everything about the now: news, trends, rumors etc. Timely content has a short life span.
On the other hand, timeless content is about significance, no matter what’s happening at the moment of writing. People care about it today, cared about it yesterday, and most probably will do tomorrow.
So, thanks to Nicolas Cole, who taught me this in Ship30For30, now I know the path to evergreen content.
The path is clear.
To have an evergreen content library, I have to focus 90% of my effort into building timeless content. Wouldn’t be amazing to write content that resonates with people 50 years from now? If it’s hard to imagine the future, write for your ancestors.
And by the way, your interests reflect your content consumption.
